I also use K-9 mail.  Regardless, there are several email apps to chose
from that support IMAP.  I use currently use Dovecot, but started with
UoW IMAP years ago.  I also use IMAPS, so my email is secure when using
a public WiFi hotspot.  With my IMAP server, all my computers, operating
systems and email clients are all synced.
