I didn't mean to suggest I was old at 36 but I can certainly notice a
physical difference from 26 (or 21). I used to get by on scant sleep in
my 20s. Now I just can't :)

I migrated to Canada at 30. I reflected that it would have been more
difficult the older I got as I would have been more settled in my home
country.

True but you gain a lot with experience. So far I think the trade off has
been worth it.

Almost all scientists make their major contributions in their first 10
years of professional research.

While I'm not a scientist I work towards the advancement of my profession
(system administration) with original work. I like to think I have many
more contributions to make yet.

I'm currently developing a site where I am releasing much of my work on
system administration as a single body of work for the first time. Up to
this time it has been released piecemeal, often on mailing lists. The
site is actually online but I've refrained from announcing it until it is
'beta' quality. People drop in via search engines from time to time
though.

Cheers,

Rob
