This month's NewTLUG meeting will be held
Tues Oct 28th.,
at the IBM offices 3600 Steeles Ave E.

**Important**

This meeting is free and all are welcome, however, all attendees will be
required to have a security badge. Badges should be prepared in advance.

Ken is a frequent presenter at NewTLUG.
Most recently, this spring, demonstrating how to rip and encode CD's in
one step (including Ogg, Mp3, Wav, and Flac formats)


Topics:

1) Linux for Absolute Beginners:
or "Linux for people who are unfamiliar with Linux.
    A talk and Q and A session for newbies."

including:
- explanations of the kernel,
- window managers,
- filesystems,
- distros, and
- free software.

bonus beginner topics:
- installation and configuration,
- how to load and use Linux on a USB key, and
- portable Linux.


2) How to Make Money from Free Software:
- how commercial companies like Red Hat, Slackware, etc
  make money using Linux.

but wait, even more bonus topics:
- how to use Knoppix to recover lost files,
- how to remove Windows passwords with Linux rescue disks, and
- some talk about a T***WS scam that Ken discovered this summer while
  researching this topic.




Après-meet:

After the meeting some will adjourn to a local coffee shop for continued
discussion and general world problem solving.

Directions:

Meet at the front entrance well before 7:00pm (6:30 recommended) to pickup
your ID badge.  At about 7:00 we'll be escorted to the auditorium.  Some
provision will be made for anyone arriving a little late.

Parking:

Free parking is available in the visitor parkade from 6:00pm to 11:00pm.
