Correct.  I'd expect tens of thousands of pages to not be much of an 
issue performance wise, we have many users but the site is not being 
pounded with traffic by any stretch.

Exactly, I'm hoping for some amount of software assistance in this ... 
mediawiki doesn't seem to offer very much in that regard.
