CDs play in W98 but not FC2

I clicked on the Preferences button and see the application is called, 
simply, "CD Player". "CD Player" comes up automatically when I pop a 
music CD in either the CD-ROM drive or the CD burner - the status bar 
shows that "CD Player" thinks it is playing the CD...but no sound.
