Beyond Quake 4 some of the earlier ID games such as
Doom 3 are available for Linux.

As well, Unreal Tournament 2003, and Unreal Tournament
2004 both run under Linux and are both very impressive
games. 

Now, as Behdad Esfahbod suggests you are going to have
to pay attention to video chipset in the laptop as all
the games noted here depend on good graphics hardware
that is well supported under Linux (translation, any
current generation nVidia chip set and you are
laughing, an ATI chip set you might not be beyond
hope. If it isn't nVidia or ATI based you are in real
trouble).
