Quite so.

The same applies to printers, scanners and modems.  While all of these
areas have improved recently you'll need to judge for yourself.  Is
scanning the most important thing for you?  best bring the scanner and
throw a bunch of experts at it then.  

(Even better if you Google {linux distro} {scanner model number} in
advance, too)
