For basic C syntax I always liked "C: A Reference Manual" by Harbison & 
Steele (published by Prentice Hall). The thing about C is that there are 
so many external libraries [1]; I haven't touched it in years, but I 
presume g_print and g_date are glib things? So you'd probably want some 
kind of glib reference too.
