Cups does not require httpd to work.  The cupsd demon has a built-in web 
server.

I found cups to be the easiest to use and it supports my HP Deskjet 660C 
perfectly on
a PC with the default hpijs driver.  Plus you can configure it with 
KDE's control center
or GNOME's print manager.
