[GTALUG] tips on packing computers?

Generally speaking computers are fairly resilient when not powered up.
The disk drive heads park and are not on the platters.
So it takes a real hit to cause them harm.
With real abuse the cooling fans can sometimes fall off the CPU heat sinks.
But other than that I have found that if the box is not dented or bent
it will work.

If you toss the computer in a box with some clothing on the bottom and
around it then it should be safe but for someone really crazy.

In high-school some friends got a job helping to pack for a costco like
business.
They use to play a game.
"Keep the box clean".
The idea was that you would push the box off the shelves in such a way
that it would land flat destroying the internal things like televisions
but not show any external damage.

So long as your movers are not in the same kind of mindset as my
high-school friends then you should be just fine.
