Further to Chris' comment, SPI holds large sums of money, tangible and 
intangible assets (such as trademarks) on behalf of some of the world's 
most important FOSS projects.

SPI worries about admin so that projects can get on with coding.

I served on the board of SPI for several years and encourage others in the 
FOSS world to take an interest in SPI and consider joining as contributing 
members.
