Following that principle would lead to people tending to being accepting of
HTML-based mail (as that's the "liberal" part), and of them being loath to
submit it, as it is most definitely NOT the "conservative" thing to send.
In effect, what you're describing indicates that "current industry
practice" is utterly dismissive of Postel's Law.
