I guess 30 GB for / would be enough for you.On my laptop (Arch Linux)
I do only need 10GB, but on my workstation (Arch Linux) I'm using a
20GB partition for /.

Workstation:
[kalib at tuxcaverna ~]$ df -h
Sist. Arq. Tam. Usado Disp. Uso% Montado em
/dev/sda3 20G 16G 3,6G 82% /
dev 2,9G 0 2,9G 0% /dev
run 2,9G 748K 2,9G 1% /run
tmpfs 2,9G 0 2,9G 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 2,9G 0 2,9G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs 2,9G 620K 2,9G 1% /tmp
/dev/sda4 427G 316G 90G 78% /home
/dev/sda1 99M 25M 68M 27% /boot
