2.4GHz working, but 5GHz not working -- strange dmesg error

Try using the card with a liveusb/cd or boot a kernel that you know
worked in the past with it.
Otherwise, give ndiswrapper a shot just to see if there's an issue with
the firmware it's loading or the Linux driver. Just as a last test
before you are relegated to 2.4GHz.
