Well, if it weren't for mortgages, most people couldn't buy a home. 
Capital projects in business and government often require borrowing.  
Are you suggesting that cities not build major infrastructure projects, 
if they don't have cash in hand?  If so, then we'd likely see little 
built.  What about all the stores that get stock on credit?  Credit is 
not the problem.  Abuse of it is.
