MP250 printer settings on Debian

When I try to print a black and white document with this printer, it
gives an error that the colour ink is empty.

I am looking for a way to tell this printer to only print black and
white. I can't find a clear answer anywhere, some say you _have to_
have colour ink, others say it's optional. I can't find any relevant
settings for this printer except under Printer Options in the Printing
dialogue, there is a setting for 'colour model', which only has 'RGB'
available.

Anyone else have this printer?
