Randomly Blanking/Power-saving Display in X (Centos 5.5)

Hi all,

    For about a month now I've had my screen go blank, when I move the 
mouse or press a key. Some times it makes my computer unusable for a 
couple of moments. It has most often happened while I'm surfing the web 
(in Firefox, ver. 3.6.9) with several tabs open. However, it also 
happened while I was writing this message.   David
