I got this response (see comment #4) back from the ubuntu forum, which
is what you were telling me

I am going to give that a try before updating the video driver, I am
not sure what binary drive the installer copied onto my system. I am
hoping it was an nvidia one and not some generic driver?

will reply back to this post tonight when I get home and give this a go
