There is a dual-core model:

Probably that's what you've got.

Not sure, but I know on my Debian server I get nothing from ACPI, too. 
I've not looked into it, but would be curious to hear what you find out.

 From the command line, with root priv., try running alsamixer. Not sure 
if this is your problem, but I've run into trouble when one of the 
volumes not shown in Gnome was set low. Turning it up fixed the problem.
