It seems that FF3 already addresses this problem:

To understand how useful this is, consider the case where one uses wireless
access and pays per MB or GB with a monthly cap. Just reading one's favorite
newspaper online with 8-9 tabs open for a few hours a day will obliterate a 1GB
allocation in less than a month.
I tried the NoScript and other add-ons and I think that they work great but they
are far too complex and that they ask too many questions for such a simple task.
