Well the .ppd file should have options for colour settings that
applications can use, so maybe that is an option.

If you want good colour, you use an epson inkjet, not a laser printer
in general.  Some have pantone calibration and such (some xerox models
for example) that may help, but I don't know if very many do.

Of course it could be defective too.
