ifconfig data interpretation

I've only recently begun using ip and haven't done any homework on it
yet; ifconfig's been a friend for a long time though.  On the surface
it seems to me that ip is limited when it comes to describing
connections at-a-glance so I continue to use ifconfig.

Why is ifconfig being deprecated?
