OT: Is any hard disk brand better/worse than the others?

Maxtor DiamondPlus8 40GB drives.  They will fail.  All of them, and all
catastrophicly.

So that's a few years ago, but still. :)

I had an 80GB maxtor die within 4 hours of installing it about 5 years
ago.  At least it failed before I had actually started really using it.
I was still rsyncing data to it when it went.
