Someone from the alsa-users list told me that there is a sample rate 
switch in alsamixer. I found it by experimenting with the Tab key. I set 
it to 44100 (it was 48000) and now everything (totem, youtube, audacity) 
is playing in the correct key. You might have assumed I would have taken 
care of settings in alsamixer. :/

Anyway - thanks. Now U2 & Mary J. Blige's "One" is in A minor as it 
should be. God, can that girl sing...
