Okay, I'm likely to get flamed or at least singed for this one...

... but shouldn't EE's get a little more credit for 2^8?  I have a feeling
most programmers today don't understand the significance of the number,
unless they've gotten into the guts of C at the device level or actually
gone out to read what goes on behind the scenes.

That said, I've seen both clueless circuit designers and very clued-in
software guys who knew more about the hardware than them.  I guess my point
is that it should be a little more inclusive.
