  Can your printer/driver handle PDF in the first place?  If not, can it
handle postscript.  If so "man pdf2ps" for instructions on converting
PDF fiels to PS.  Then print the PS version

  You need to kill some process somewhere.  Assuming you have a generic
setup, try...
/etc/init.d/cupsd restart

  Plan B... "ps -ef | less" and see which process looks suspicious and
            kill it.

  Plan C... reboot.
