Simple video editing?

If the other tools mentioned by others on this list don't do what you need, 
you may want to look at using Kino (http://www.kinodv.org) or LiVES 
(http://lives.sourceforge.net/). There is also Cinelerra 
(http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3) but that's getting away from a 
simple program.
