I use mutt with vim as my editor, so yes they are done in vi.

Whatever you use make sure you tell it your text is preformated and then
you can do everything.  Do not use tabs, only spaces.

OK, so why would any of your computers need more than one network
connection?  They all connect to the router, so there is no reason for
more than one connection on any of them is there?

What settings does the router give you via dhcp?
gateway of 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254 or something else?
What range of IPs did you configure it to hand out via dhcp?

As long as your static setup uses the same gateway and dns as the router
hands out via dhcp and you pick a static ip that is outside the range it
hands out for dhcp, then things should work just fine.
