Sickening shilling for MS by Ontario privacy commissioner

Indeed, I'm going to have to side with the anti-knee-jerkers. First
of all, anything less then polite suggestions/commentary is very
harmful to the general reputation of Linux, FOSS, and the users of
said software. Even if someone is downright wrong, if they are acting
in good faith then it's not going to help your cause to act
inflammatory.

Second, I've seen shilling for MS, and this is not it. She's merely
backing what she thinks is a good idea, unless I missed a whole chunk
of text or something. I don't actually know enough about this
specific scheme to comment on it, but it doesn't sound terrible, nor
does it sound like it would promote an MS monoculture.

As for the IPC contact page, use common sense, that page is targeting
your average person. Mention encryption and a sizable fraction of
the population will clue out. Yes, it would have been nice for them
to briefly mention that it is possible to work around this and send
things securely, but other than that their goal of warning people
against sending sensitive info in the mail has been met.

Before reacting harshly, I suggest looking through some of the
published material on their site, as well as doing some research. The
privacy commission is one of the few consumer advocates we have, so in
my opinion they deserve a bit of slack, their intentions are good. If
you disagree, keep in mind that you'll do more good sending
well-reasoned arguments to them than you will being a tool and flaming
people.
