Subject: [tpm] Cem Kaner Presentation at TASSQ, October 17

Sorry for the inbox intrusion, or if you've been notified multiple times, or
if it's old news, but I don't want anyone to miss out on this by the
misfortune of not hearing about it.

Dr. Cem Kaner is arguably most highly respected writer, speaker, and thinker
in the field of software testing today. He is the principal author of two
of the best-selling testing books in history (Testing Computer Software;
Lessons Learned in Software Testing). Through his career that he says
focuses on "enhancing the satisfaction and safety of software customers,
users, and developers", he has been a test manager, a lawyer, a developer, a
consultant, a trainer, and a professor of software engineering. He
currently teaches software testing, computer ethics, and test-first Java
programming at the Florida Institute of Technology.

I'm personally thrilled that he's talking to the Toronto Association of
System and Software Quality on the topic of "Software Testing as a Social
Science". He will speak as a strong voice for the testing profession and a
passionate advocate of tester skill, but he will also have serious warnings
about the quality and relevance of testing in a world of increasingly
overwhelming complexity, and some suggestions on what we can do to make
software better for everyone.

The event is at an unusual time of the month for TASSQ. This one is on
Tuesday, October 17, (that's this coming Tuesday) at the University of
Toronto, Wallberg Building (WB), Room 116, 200 College St. at St. George, in
downtown Toronto. The doors open at 6:00pm; Dr. Kaner's presentation begins
at 7:00pm. There will be questions and answers. We will also be gathering
in a local pub afterwards for further questions and discussion.
Registration for the presentation is at http://www.tassq.org.

This is an extremely compelling subject for our profession. I would urge
anyone who has an interest in software testing and development to attend,
and I would ask as a favour that you also please pass the word on to your
colleagues by whatever means available.

Thank you,

---Michael B.
