With regards to Linksys routers, I recommend the Motorola WR850G as a
much cheaper equivalent.  I bought mine on College St. last month for
$32.  However, I haven't tried putting OpenWRT on it, mainly because
the latest first-party firmware is so good that I haven't needed to
yet (I can use the thing as an AP instead of router with the
first-party firmware).
