Sorry, that was dumb -- I was in the root directory. /initrd is definitely 
there but has no listed files in it. 

[root at p733]# ls -a /initrd
. .. 

1007960 one-kilobyte blocks -- I guess that's a gigabyte. SO, it takes up 
space! 

I'll read up on initrd...
