SMTP Options for Laptops?

I assume you're referring to ISP's not accepting SMTP on port 25, from
outside the network?  If so, they may have another port you can use. 
For example, my ISP also uses port 587, which can be used from off their
network.  I also run my own IMAP server, so I can access my  incoming
mail via VPN.
