USB stick partition problems

It is starting to look like the device doesn't work with a machine that only
supports USB 1.0 from what I am seeing. My machine has a problem with it but
another machine I have access to which uses a Pentium 4 seems to have little
problem with it.
The messages I get from the device when I try and use it in Linux are:
