Unable to set resolution

Sorry, .xsession-errors is not the file you want.
$HOME/.X.err is the file to look at. However, using KDM here the
.X.err file is not written.
aha, found it:
sy, on Suse, using KDM, the file you want to look at is /var/log/Xorg.0.log

The lines I'd look at are:
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Thu Aug  4 10:57:51 2005
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"

Also, /var/log/kdm.log might tell you something useful.
