Stewart,

   6GB it is!  :)

   I am still happy with FVWM.  My PII/350 is fast enough to run Gnome, but my laptop is marginal.   FVWM is way faster.  Regardless of speed, FVWM has a way better set of mouse options.  

   I was looking at my notes recently, for my old '486.  It no longer runs, as far as I know.  I typed this email in on my old laptop.
