You are right, some of these application-development tools are from the
1980's, however the kit also comes with
a API for C/C++ and pre-compilers for C/C++ and also a few 3GL languages.
Also a JDBC connectivity tool.
One could easily develop applications using a X-based front-end and Ingres
as a database.
The PDF library contains a developer's guide for the API and all other
tools.
Ingres is indeed new on Linux but was originally developed on Solaris and
OpenVMS, so it is all written
in C and it is fairly easy to use it from almost any programming language,
or using a ODBC from other software front-ends.
