I just checked. I'm actually connecting to another port, not 25, via SSL so 25 
could be blocked and I wouldn't know it. I could also do what I do for POP, 
which is to put:

ssh -C -f me-3Q2Tfjf0mexWk0Htik3J/w at public.gmane.org -L 11110:mydomain.com:110 sleep 5

in the precommand field in KMail and point to localhost:11110 to check POP 
mail.
