Pavel, I don't think that's what Jim wants. It sounds like he wants a
good quality camera for time-lapse photography.
Remote control in a camera over USB doesn't seem that common. Certain
(possibly older) Canon cameras can be put into a PC control mode, but I
don't know of any Linux programs that support the 'Sierra' protocol over
USB to make this work.
It may be possible to control a higher-end DSLR over USB. Corey Manders
was developing libd2h to control Nikon DSLRs, but I haven't heard
anything of it for a year or so.
The last digicam I had that I control from software was about six years
ago; it was a Fuji DX-5, and ran to a paltry 640x480 resolution.
I wish this could have been more helpful.
