... Which is only forcibly true for .com and .net domains.
Because you have actually oversimplified things. What happens, in
reality, is thus:
- Registrar X sends the .COM registry an RRP request for the transfer,
which requires no particular authorization information;
- The registry then informs your registrar, who then informs you...
Those registries that use More Modern Protocols like EPP to manage
domain registration do not have this problem, because in order to
request the transfer, Registrar-X is required to have an authentication
token that they would have to get from you. If they haven't got the
token, the transfer request will fail.
