I finally got some speakers for my clone but am unable to get sounds coming
from the motherboard's sound card.

Steps taken so far:
* I've tested the speakers on my other computer and they work fine.
* I've made sure the speaker is plugged into the correct line-out jack on
the motherboard
* I've opened up the box and ensured that the motherboard jumpers are set
correctly to direct the sound to the stereo Line out jack.
* I've ensured that the cable from the CD ROM is connected to the correct
plug on the motherboard
* I log in as root and from Gnome I click Start / System Settings /
Soundcard Detection
a screen comes up entitled "Audio Devices". It's contents follows:

The following audio device was detected
Vendor: Silicon Integrated Systems
Model: Sound Controller
Module: i810_audio

A button on the dialogue asks me if I want to play a test sound. I press
the button but no sound comes out.

I'm not sure if the auto-detection failed. I know I have a
SiS962L southbridge controller. I know that I also have a multi-I/O
controller and a sound controller chip on the motherboard, but the manual
doesn't seem mention the actual chip name and model #.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance.

paul
