I should read my posts more often... apparently I resemble a raving
lunatic sometimes ;) But I want to go on record as stating that
communism sucks ass as much as capitalism. I just can't figure out how
to develop a compromise between the two. Socialism strikes a nice
balance if only our taxes were managed better.Perhaps there isn't one
and we're doomed to vacillate between the two. But the oss & fsf
movements, to me, embody alot of things I think and believe and puts
them into practice. So yes, I can't remember who said it, but it *is*
about more than just the software.

In all total seriousness, I got no problem forking over half of my
income in tax IF, AND ONLY IF, it is used well and effectively. I'm
happy to have my money go toward feeding and educating people, free
healthcare for everyone, keeping us and our children safe, developing
and enhancing our arts and culture, and making the world a better place
for everyone. Scandinavia (Denmark in particular) strikes a pretty good
balance in my experience but they have their own issues.

Of course, these are all easy things for an upper-middle class educated
and well fed white dude to say. I always found it amusing that of the
many political ethos that promulgate mass revolt for the betterment of
the masses, the authors of the relevant doctrines are almost always well
educated upper class non-coloured people. Perhaps that explains the
failure rate; a true understanding of the causes, nature and plight of
the disadvantaged is lacking.
