Frequent mouse "pausing" in FC2

Whenever I've seen behaviour of this sort, it's been due to the HD having
DMA disabled.  I've seen it happen on my Duron 1GHz in both NetBSD and
Linux 2.6.  Use hdparm to doublecheck that DMA is enabled.
