On a machine comparable to the one you describe I am:

- doing virtual hosting for some 30 different domain websites.
- Acting as root name server for those 30 or so domains
- running a mail server for about a dozen people
- Run a web mail program (Squirelmail)
- letting it act as a IP masking box with three subdomains
- running three dhcpd servers

And the box I am running this on is JUST FINE. Ok, so the machine I am using
is not directly acting as a file server, but then your also not talking
about running a mail server.

Bottom line you should be great with what you describe. My only extra bit of
advice would be do NOT run X-Windows on this server (as that can be a real
memory / CPU pig).
