unremovable drives

Exciting, but there are no processes listed after this command!
and yet, immediately afterwards;
[root at localhost djp]# rmdir -v /mnt/removable3/
rmdir: removing directory, /mnt/removable3/
rmdir: `/mnt/removable3/': Device or resource busy

thanks for introducing me to fuser, though, this is a weird one ..
