can't switch screen resolutions under knoppix 3.4/kde

As the subject says, but while in the kdm window, it works. During the 
session it does not. I have looked at kde.org, kiosk mode, and other 
things, and at knopper.net . Can anyone confirm that the resolution cannot 
be switched and that Ctrl-AltFx does not switch to consoles while in kde 
as user ? Is there a known fix ?
