First you need to know in what way the signal is bad. Get a color bar
chart and a resolution chart and a grayscale chart and look at them
through your setup (preferrably using a camera and somewhat proper ligting
on the chart). Then you will know what needs fixing. In my experience
looking at video material with a bttv-based card yielded better results on
the computer monitor than on a good quality professional video monitor.
The bttv card resolves 360 lines (720 pixels) (pal) which most TVs don't.
