When I looked into Linux laptops, I lingered on this one for quite some 
time.  The two things that lead me to eventually not go with it were: 
having to pay for Windows, and the pernicious hinge-cracking problem 
that they have.  Just google for emachines hinge and you'll see what I 
mean.  It ain't pretty.
