apt-get problem

I went into /var/cache/apt/archives/ and all I found there was 
alsa-utils_0.9.6-1_i386.deb.
I renamed it (NOT.*.NOT) and ran;
root at PIII500:/mnt/hda8/djp# apt-get -f install
