I actually prefer to get rid of the bootsplash anyway, you can set VGA=794 in
/etc/lilo.conf, that way your text mode is 1024x768, nicer to work with than
that ginormous blocky text. Plus you get to see any errors on boot that you
otherwise might miss.

'Course, I've never seen any errors yet, but that's Linux!
